As someone building AI solutions for sign language users in education, healthcare and an accessible internet, I would like to bring an inclusion lens to global AI governance. Today, over 1.3 billion people, nearly 16% of the global population live with disabilities, according to the World Health Organization. Yet most advanced AI systems are built primarily for text and voice users. Sign languages and accessible design remain largely absent from mainstream foundation models. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities affirms equal access to information, communication, education, and public services. The Sustainable Development Goals 4 on Quality Education and SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities commit us to "leave no one behind." As AI becomes embedded in public infrastructure, these commitments must extend into digital systems.
