All priorities are important, this is my rationale for my four choices. This was a really difficult choice. Safe, secure and trustworthy AI is the start since it means we can engage with and learn about these systems with the knowledge that we are safe to engage. AI capacity-building comes next which allows those with the interest to dive deep into the models and propose how policies and governance can best meet our needs. This is facilitated by transparency, accountability, and human oversight, since we can't learn from a closed book where quality is not guaranteed. Open-source software, open data and open AI models then allows communities to attempt to build/train their own, on top of systems/models that are already available and that will be maintained and kept up to date. We need a commons and a non-proprietary common standard/model.

Lets not assume that the future is inevitable and AI must continue to be implemented at the current uncontrollable speed. The first order of governance is to govern the pace of implementation. If we are already unable to manage/govern the pace, then how can we hope to realistically govern effectively?

Countries in the Caribbean and the Global South still lack the ability to influence discussion. Privacy should also be clearly stated as well as whether I am engaging with an AI system directly or whether this data will be processed by an AI system. For example, take this form and the notice at the bottom... "The data you submit will be sent to the form owner. Microsoft is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of its customers, including those of this form owner. Never give out your password. Microsoft Forms | AI-Powered surveys, quizzes and pollsCreate my own form"... Please kindly inform me of what happens after I submit this form?

Continue to hold stakeholder engagements and invite everyone.

The Informal Stakeholder Consultation on the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance on 18.03.26 was a good event. Not everyone got to speak. Also, will all the interventions be made public so we can evaluate to what extent some of the recommendations have been taken into account?

This should be an ongoing deliberate process that iterates as those voices that are missing may not currently have the means to articulate that they are not present or may not be aware that there is a call for their participation. Formulate and implement which being open to iterate and improve the governance.

Continue to open. Take those with disabilities for example and those are currently digitally excluded. My 80 year old relative has a view on AI so perhaps there also could be local country level (if not community) events also. The voices of farmers, the nurses, the teachers, trade unions, etc with an invitation to these professional groups for contributions.

My policy is to share what I know with my community. This is a work in progress and I am building a CSO. Each one, teach one... and eventually we will reach many. Please keep me in the loop. Thank you.
