Responses

In your opinion, what outcomes would make the first Global Dialogue on AI Governance a success?

High level agreement amongst the three major AI powers - the US, China and the EU - on an AI governance and oversight framework.

From your perspective, which of the following thematic areas identified by the General Assembly Resolution 79/325 for the AI Dialogue reflect your priorities for urgent action and active engagement?

  • Safe, secure and trustworthy AI
  • Social, economic, ethical, cultural, linguistic and technical implications of AI
  • Interoperability of governance approaches
  • Open-source software, open data and open AI models

Please briefly explain your selection.

These are the most important fundamental building blocks of active engagement.

In your opinion, are there any cross-cutting or emerging issues not captured by the listed themes above? If so, please explain.

Agentic AI governance will become extremely important over the coming months & years.

How are the governance gaps and related developments/advances in the thematic areas you selected above affecting your country, region, or sector? Please highlight the most significant challenges.

The main challenge is a lack of alignment and agreement between the three major AI blocs as mentioned earlier - US, EU & China. The opportunities are the benefits to humanity that advanced AI can bring, for example, extended health span, reduction in climate change, and further scientific and technological advancement thereby lifting the whole of society in terms of better healthcare and cheap, clean energy.

What role can the AI Dialogue play in advancing international cooperation on AI governance?

You can be an international focal point to get all parties and countries discussing and cooperating on AI governance.

What are some of the existing initiatives, partnerships, or mechanisms that the AI Dialogue should build upon or connect with, and what added value could the AI Dialogue bring?

IAEA, ITU-T, Asilomar Conference.

How can different stakeholders contribute to the AI Dialogue? Please share recommendations for the format and structure of the AI Dialogue.

Needs representatives from government, industry (including the frontier AI labs), academia, NGOs, and civil society.

Which voices, communities, or perspectives are currently underrepresented in global discussions on AI governance? How could they be included?

Civil society.

What innovative engagement formats could most effectively foster meaningful and dynamic engagement during the AI Dialogue?

Needs to have representations from everybody at the table, i.e., no one left out. Could/should also conduct surveys (online and offline) to get input and opinions from general society as AI impacts everyone on the planet.

Please share examples of policies, practices, platforms, or approaches that promote effective AI governance or offer concrete solutions to addressing its challenges.

Too many to list. See recent white papers on AI safety and ethics from the frontier labs (Google Deepmind, Anthropic, OpenAI, Alibaba, etc.).
