An international agreement to prevent the creation of superhuman AI (artificial general intelligence) and banning powerful AI systems that are given autonomy and agency.

Superintelligent AI/AGI will cause significant economic disruption- job losses at a global scale that will result in significant economic inequality and instability for which we as a society are not prepared or equipped to navigate and correct. Superintelligent AI can not be developed in a safe and secure manner and it poses an existential threat to all humanity. Superintelligent AI poses multiple other risks and dangers, including threatening democracy, loss of privacy, environmental risks, autonomous weapons, tyranny, biological weapons and cybersecurity attacks. These risks needs to be addressed at a global scale and requires an international treaty through a shared framework or international law against the development of superintelligent AI and for the development of safe, secure and trustworthy AI. 6 people should not be allowed to determine the fate of 8 billion people.

South Africa is already suffering a 31.4% unemployment rate (with youth unemployment at 43.8%). South Africa will experience significant job displacement and further hindering youth access to the workforce due to companies freezing vacancies and adopting AI which is stopping entry-level job creation. There is already extreme social inequality in South Africa which is being worsened by the implementation of AI. Over and above South Africa, AGI will cause mass structural unemployment globally, it will destroy the purchasing power of the working and middle class leading to global social inequality, increasing world hunger and depravity in society.

The implementation of an international law or treaty must be prioritised to prevent the creation of superintelligent artificial intelligence/AGI. This has to be done at a global/international level to ensure that competing countries agree to stop the development and race to AGI in order to protect humanity as a whole and ensure no one country obtains the level of power that will accompany having AGI.

Tristan Harris and the Center for Humane Technology- a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that today's most consequential technologies, such as AI and social media, actually serve humanity. We bring clarity to how the tech ecosystem works in order to shift the incentives that drive it. They have launched a major workstream "AI and what makes us human". Input from experts such as Center for Humane Technology will provide the required perspective and seasoned technology expertise needed to identify and transform the most critical incentives, so that society can reap the benefits of technology — and minimize harm. Taken from their website.

The individuals and families that will be impacted by job losses as a result of the implementation of AI and even more so AGI. They could be included by having experts such as Tristan Harris or someone from the Center for Humane Technology speak on their behalf- to ensure the seriousness of the impacts and risks are explained to policy makers and global leaders.
